    Darker than Black Category Page

Hei and Yin are now on the run after betraying the Syndicate in the previous season. After leaving Japan, Hei encounters Suou Pavlichenko, a 13 year old Eurasian girl who becomes embroiled in the war and politics of the various factions and Contractors vying for power. Meanwhile, Hell’s Gate remains standing in Tokyo, after Hei’s efforts to stop the Saturn Ring anti-Gate particle weapon from activating. Although Contractors are safe from the danger of having their existences erased, this does not prevent new and old Contractors from abusing their powers. As Misaki Kirihara and her team in the Public Security Bureau deal with the increasing Contractor cases, she also has to keep the Syndicate at bay, who has major positions in the Japanese police and intelligence bureaus around the world.

Darker than Black season 2 (Darker than Black: Gemini of the Meteor) is a strange beast. It’s strange because I’m finding it uncommonly difficult to decide whether I’m hyped for it or not, at least I was until I saw the latest PV. Initially I greeted the announcement with a gut-reaction ‘meh’, and indifference born from my dissatisfaction with the confusing and poorly-paced first season. When the scans and tasty clues about the changes to the cast, and different angle for the plot started to arise my curiosity was roused. I’m especially intrigued by one of the new lead characters, Suou, the young, red-haired sniper. I always find that cute girls and badassery make a compelling mix. Then, further clues killed the assumption that Yoko Kanno would be returning to score the series - a bitter loss for fans of the now elusive musical goddess. This sense of disappointed was effectively terminated with a striking and highly promising (second) PV and the news that Hellsing’s composer would be usurping Kanno. Now I’m starting to think this will be the prime attraction of the new season (regardless of my love for Railgun).

7 Sept .. The official website has been updated with a music page providing the details on the OP and ED.

        OP:「ツキアカリのミチシルベ」 / ステレオポニー
        「Guide of the Moonlight」 - Stereopony
ED:「From Dusk Till Dawn」 / abingdon boys school

I’m not familiar with Stereopony but Abingdon are a pretty well known group. They did the OP for the first Darker than Black so it’s cool they’re coming back, if only for the ED. They’ve been doing a lot of anime songs lately, contributing to Soul Eater, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and Sengoku Basara.
