To Aru Kagaku no Railgun Category Post
Academy City. 2.3 million inhabitants. 80% of the students are active in the ‘Brain Development Program’ and out of those only 7 are Level 5s.
Meet the civilian protagonist Mikoto and her friend Kuroko, maintainers of peace and order in the University district. Kuroko is a member of ‘Judgement’.
I’ve been eagerly anticipating To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, (or A Certain Scientific Railgun, depending on your tolerance for stupid-sounding title translations) for quite a while now. I wouldn’t call myself a big Index fan, but thankfully a fiery and semi-tsundere supporting character by the name of Mikoto Misaka ended up stealing all the glory as the most charismatic and coolest girl in the series. So we have Index to thank for spawning a spinoff manga with the venerable Railgun and her yuri-yuri worshipper sidekick as the lead characters. The manga has really exceeded my expectations - the story arcs covered so far have been really interesting, and the character development, particularly of the lovely Kuroko, has been very strong. The art is also really stunning, it captures the girls’ cuter moments really well, and also Railgun’s badass scenes are done perfectly. I highly recommend it as a seinin manga, to those who haven’t seen or read any Index before, and especially to those who have and, like me, got sick of Touma’s self-righteous ramblings. It has great characters, action, a bit of fanservice and a juicy yuri subplot. Now an anime was announced some time ago, and since then I’ve been gradually getting more and more excited about it, especially when I learned the changes being made to the staff. I doubt I’ll be able to hook in any new fans with this post, but my dedication to Biri-biri compels me to fan-rave about it anyway. With any luck, the captivating characters, awesome action sequences and moe charms of the manga will all come through to create a really fantastic series.

● 12 Oct .. More Misaka/Kuroko sexyness! Now we see what happens in their dorm room of a night. Kuroko has her way with Biri-biri! Her expresion is saying ‘hey guys, look at this!’ while she unbottons a sleeping Misaka’s pyjamas. Her Pyjamas are totally cute!!
● 4 Oct .. Another scan, a double-page of Megami magazine featuring a very fetching shot of naked Biri-biri and Kuroko. Naturally, Kuroko nis on the offensive!
● 3 Oct .. First episode has AIRED!!!!!!!!! .. getting ready to watch now, and a preview post will follow.
● 30 Sept .. Here’s a pretty fun interview with the two leading seiyuus, Rina Satou (Biri-biri) and Satomi Arai (Kuroko). Watch below or read my full post on it complete with brief translation here.
● 28 Sept .. WAO! More amazingly hot ecchi-level official artwork with this latest scan depicting Kuroko and Biri-biri in their school swimsuits. The sexyness is off the charts! I love Misaka’s embarrassed face, and Kuroko on the other hand is alluringly bold.
● 10 Sept .. A good quality preview of the TV-size OP for Railgun has been released and can be heard on youtube. Personally I like it quite a lot. It’s reminiscent of the Index OPs but more catchy. Maria’s (CANAAN) seiyuu is the singer for this track and does an impressive job. After CANAAN it seems like she will have a good career ahead of her. Really, the seiyuu I really want to hear is Itou kanae portraying Saten - that should be a lot of fun.
● 10 Sept .. A couple more new scans have arisen. They’re both great, but the image of Kuroko and Biri-biri undressing is a new favourite of mine!! OH GOD BIRI-BIRI IS HOT etc..
● 2 Sept .. A new scan has cropped up showing the four main girls. The pose isn’t anything exotic, but it’s a great look at the anime character designs. Kuroko is looking particularly fetching here.
● 19 Aug .. The official website (http://www.project-railgun.net/) now has the PV up in higher quality. It’s worth watching again to get the crisper audio. Now Kanae Itoh is actually recognisable without having to compete with the background cacaphony of a comiket! Odd that all but one of Misaka’s lines in the PV are mute, was there some kind of point to that, or they just didn’t get it finished? ¯\(°_o)/¯
