I dunno what amvnews did, but they really managed to squeeze some of the very best out of a bunch of editors with their ‘alternate opening 09’ competition. I previously posted on the suave and stylised alternate-James Bond opening subtly infused with anime such as Noir and Cowboy Bebop. It’s hard to say, but I think I just stumbled on one I like even more. The idea of the competition was simply to create an alternative TV-size opening track (generally to an anime); it didn’t have to be in keeping with the mood of the original series. And so, the talented editors of the KECCGroup have seen fit to concoct a dark and dramatic OP to the decidedly happy and frivolous high-school comedy, Hyakko.

The AMV is techynically impressive the effects are both highly original and masterfully used to sleek and moody opening. It must have taken a lot of willpower, effort and AMV wizardry to transform the light and fluffy Hyakko into what appears to be a totally different show. Check it out, even if you haven’t seen Haykko, because it really is amazingly put together. Some of the best editing I’ve ever seen. Truly masterful!
